Men’s Basketball Holds Off The Citadel, 70-60

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team earned its seventh victory this season by double figures topping The Citadel, 70-60, in Southern Conference (SoCon) play at the Greensboro Coliseum.
 
The 6-1 record in SoCon play continues to match the Spartans' conference start during the 2018-19 season.
 
Three Spartans paced the win with double figures, including Keyshaun Langley who led the game with 19 points and nine rebounds. Keondre Kennedy had 11 points, while Dante Treacy scored 10 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCG's largest lead of the first half came at 4:49 in the frame, when Kennedy made a jumper for a 21-point advantage, 30-9. The Citadel concluded the first frame with an 11-8 run, but the Spartans went to the locker room with a 16-point lead, 38-22. This is the 16th game this season that UNCG has held a lead at the end of the first half.
 
The Spartans held a 24-point lead, their largest of the game, three times during the second half. Even with a 19-6 run in the final five minutes, 37 seconds, UNCG came up on top to secure its seventh game this season winning by double figures, 70-60. In the run, The Citadel cut the deficit to single digits after Madison Durr made a driving layup with 40-seconds left for a nine-point difference, 66-57.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Keyshaun's 19 points and nine rebounds were both game-highs.
  • Langley also chipped in a game-high four steals.
  • Bas Leyte tallied eight points and seven rebounds.
  • Kennedy, Mohammed Abdulsalam, and Kobe Langley had two steals each.
  • Four Spartans had one block in the game, Keyshaun, Kennedy, Abdulsalam, and Mikeal Brown-Jones.
  • Brown-Jones also chipped in seven points.
  • The Spartans outshot the Bulldogs in field goals, 45.1-44.4, and free throws, 76.9-66.7.
  • UNCG had 36 points in the paint compared to The Citadels' 32. The Spartans' 17 fast break points also outmatched the Bulldogs zero.
  • UNCG had 20 bench points, while The Citadel had 11 and the Spartans dropped 22 points off turnovers, compared to the Bulldogs' 10 points.
