Women’s Tennis Concludes January with Three Matches this Weekend

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team hit the road tomorrow to battle North Carolina Central University for a single match against.
 
The Spartans then turn around and host Campbell on Saturday with a start time of 1 p.m.
 
UNCG will also host Presbyterian on Sunday with a start time of noon. 

About the Spartans
  • UNCG beat Longwood, 6-1, in its home opener this semester
  • The Spartans then open February with Elon on Friday, February 3, at 2 p.m. in Elon, N.C.
  • The Spartans are coming off a tough 5-2 loss to UNC Asheville. 
  • UNCG began the fall season at the three-day Elon Invitational where it saw four doubles victories and seven singles wins.
  • The Blue & Gold then hosted its own three-day UNCG Invite, where Olivia Gallagher led the Spartans with two singles victories out of the 7 during the invite.
  • The Spartans totaled five doubles wins during that weekend.
  • Gallagher is 2-1 in number four singles.
  • Reagan Mitchel is 2-0 in number six singles. 
  • Gallagher and Hanna Giddings are 2-1 in doubles play this season. 
About NCCU
  • This will be NCCU third match of the year, as it is 0-2. 
  • NCCU opened the year out against North Carolina, losing 0-7.
  • The Eagles then had a match up against East Carolina University falling 2-5.
  • In the match against the Pirates, Kennedy Hill, Candice Bernier and Alejandra Hidalgo Vega had the singles wins.
  • NCCU played at the ITA Carolina Regionals and the HBCU National Tennis Championships last semester.
  • Last season, the Eagles went 5-16 overall and 2-4 in the MEAC.
  • The doubles team of Hill and Maria Picazo Martian are leading NCCU 1-0 in number two doubles.
About Campbell
  • The Camels had their opening match traveling to North Carolina falling 0-7.
  • Campbell then played Elon at home losing, 1-6.
  • The duo of Abbie Tyler and Anna-Marie Kopecka are 1-1 in number 1 doubles.
  • Last season, the Camels were 14-7 overall and 7-1 in the Big South.
About Presbyterian
  • Presbyterian played its first game of the year against Lander winning, 5-2.
  • The Blue Hose won 5 out of 6 singles matches that weekend.
  • After that Presbyterian competed against Clemson falling, 0-7.
  • The Blue Hose went 6-15 overall and 4-4 in the Big South in the previous season.
  • Before coming to Greensboro, the Blue Hose will host North Florida on Friday.
