WNC Sports Hall of Fame Inductees Honored

GREENSBORO, N.C.
 – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball Associate Head Coach Cetera DeGraffenreid has been named to the Western North Carolina (WNC) Sports Hall of Fame after a ceremony of induction on Sunday, Sept. 24.

"I am filled with gratitude to be inducted into the Western North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame," said DeGraffenreid. "I'm joining legends, those I grew up watching compete and my high school coach. Western North Carolina is a special place, and it will always be home. It's the community that supported and encouraged me from an early age, so it was meaningful to be back in a room with so many of those individuals this weekend."

DeGraffenreid currently stands as the all-time leading scorer and second in the state with 3,081 points at Smoky Mountain High School from 2003-07. During her time with the Mustangs, she achieved All-Conference honors all four years, Conference Player of the Year three years and WNC Women's Basketball Player of the Year from 2006-07. In addition, she led the team to the 2A NCHSAA Regional Championship and the 2A NCHSAA State Championship and State Finals in 2007. DeGraffenreid was recognized as the NCHSAA Player of the Year in N.C., a High School All-American and participated in the McDonald's All-Star Game in her senior year.

Established in 1978, the Western North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame recognizes and honors the best of the best in mountain athletics.

The induction ceremony is annually conducted by the Mountain Amateur Athletic Club. A committee accepts nominations and makes the final decisions on inductees.

This year's class includes former Smoky Mountain and North Carolina women's basketball player Cetera DeGraffenreid, former McDowell golfer Greg Parker, former Asheville High and North Carolina men's basketball player Buzz Peterson and former Hendersonville boys basketball and baseball coach Jim Pardue. Current North Henderson volleyball coach Sue Moon was the recipient of the WNC Mountain Amateur Athletic Club Adams-Ochsenreiter Lifetime Achievement Award.
