Men’s Soccer Takes on Mercer During Homecoming Weekend

GREENSBORO, N.C. –  The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team will continue The Southern Conference (SoCon) home slate by taking on Mercer in UNCG's Homecoming Weeekend on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. 

The Spartans come into Saturday's match with a 1-9-4 overall record and 0-2-1 in the SoCon, while the Bears are 5-3-6 overall and 1-1-1 in conference.

SPARTAN QUICK HITTERS

  • Ethan Conley, Arnaud Tattevin and Nabil Homssa lead the team with four points each this season.
  • Conley and Tattevin have scored two goals apiece this season, while four other Spartans have tallied one goal each.
  • Homssa leads the Spartans with two assists and 22 shots on the 2023 campaign.
  • Tattevin and Yoshiya Okawa lead UNCG with 10 shots on goal this season.
  • Colton Sessoms leads the team in game-winning goals with one, which he captured in the squad's win over Charlotte on Sept. 9.
  • Jarrett Payne and William Garinger standout as goalkeepers for the Spartans this season.
  • UNCG was voted to finish first in the SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll, while Emmanuel HaganEthan Conley, and Basile Marc earned Preseason All-Conference honors. All three were named to SoCon All-Conference teams.
  • Hagan, Conley, and Marc were named captains this season.
SCOUTING MERCER
  •  Barzee Blama leads the conference with seven goals on the 2023 stanza. He also leads his team with 15 points and 14 shots on goal.
  •  Carlos Santamaria leads the Bears with 21 shots this season.
  •  Santamaria and Blama have both captured two game-winning goals apiece for the Bears on the season.
  • Trevor McMullen stands out as the goalkeeper for the team with 42 saves and leads the SoCon with five shutouts.
  • Nick Wanzer stands atop the squad with three assists this season.

The Spartans will jump out of conference for the final time in the regular season by continuing its homestand in a matchup to VCU on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
