Tattevin Scores as Men’s Soccer Ties Mercer, 1-1

Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team and the Mercer Bears played to a 1-1 draw Saturday night at the UNCG Soccer Stadium during UNCG's Homecoming Weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans put pressure on the Bears early on and Donovan Roux was tripped inside UNCG's 18-yard box at 3:09 setting them up for a penalty kick. Basile Marc's penalty attempt was struck to the right and hit the post, giving UNCG its best opportunity of the half. Just six minutes later, Mercer capitalized on its first corner kick of the game. Nick Wanzer headed the ball to the back of the net off the outswinger from Carlos Santamaria for a 1-0 advantage at 9:41. Both teams ended up with six shots a piece in the first half, as Mercer had two saves, to UNCG's one.
 
The two teams followed the break with back-and-forth play for the first 20 minutes of the second half. The Spartans' Arnaud Tattevin gave UNCG life with an equalizer in the 65th minute. Enzo Dovlo skipped the ball through the 18-yard box from the left side and Tattevin was able to finish and tie the game at 64:31. The Spartans and Bears continued to put pressure on each other in the remaining time. With a foul and yellow card given to Mercer at 89:59, the Spartans had one final opportunity just outside the 18-yard box. Jack Birch took the free kick that sailed over the cross bar in the remaining second ending the match in a draw.
