Volleyball Takes on Chattanooga on the Road and ETSU at Home

GREENSBORO, N.C. –  The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team is set to continue The Southern Conference (SoCon) schedule with one road and one home game this week. The Spartans will be at Chattanooga on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. and return home on Saturday, Oct. 28 for a matchup to ETSU at 5 p.m. in Fleming Gymnasium.
Saturday's game against ETSU will be "Daddy Daughter Day", where fathers and daughters will be recognized and celebrated and UNCG volleyball players will sign postgame autographs for fans after the game.

Quick Hitters for the Spartans
  • UNCG heads into the weekend with a 1-20 overall record and 0-10 in the SoCon.
  • Head Coach Felicia Turner gained her first win as a head coach on Friday, Sept. 8 with a 3-0 sweep over USC Upstate at the Black & Gold Classic, hosted by App State.
  • UNCG took a straight set loss to Mercer and a four-set loss to Samford at home last week.
  • Aylin Baran led UNCG on the offensive end once again last week with 28 kills for a 4.00 kills per set average. Baran posted her fourth career double-double against Mercer on Friday with 14 kills and 10 digs. She leads the Spartans with 226 kills on the 2023 campaign.
  • Hallie Cook led the team with 20 digs last week for a 2.86 digs per set average over seven sets played. Cook added 14 kills and two service aces on the week.
  • Izora Gragg led the Spartans as the setter last week after totaling 31 assists in seven sets for a 4.43 assists per set average. Gragg added three kills against Samford on Saturday night and notched 4.0 total blocks on the week.
  • Mallory Meers stands out as the setter for the Spartans this season with 346 assists. Gragg follows closely behind with 272 assists in her freshman season.
Scouting Chattanooga
The Mocs head into action this week with a 16-9 overall record and 4-6 in conference. Chattanooga currently stands at sixth place in the SoCon. The team went 1-1 on the road last week after defeating Wofford in four sets and taking a loss to The Citadel over five sets.

Morgan Romano leads the Mocs as a hitter this season with 349 kills. Elaine Redman stands out as the setter with 892 assists. Paige Gallentine and Chard'e Vanzandt stand out on the defensive end with 472 digs and 74.0 total blocks, respectively.

The Mocs defeated the Spartans earlier this season in Fleming Gymnasium over a five-set thrilling matchup. Chattanooga leads in the overall series against UNCG at 31-23.

Scouting ETSU
ETSU comes into this weekend with a 3-18 overall record and 3-7 in conference. The Bucs stand just in front of the Spartans in the conference at eighth place. The squad went 1-1 last weekend after dropping a straight-set road match to Furman and then returned home to defeat Western Carolina in four sets.

Malgorzata Andersohn leads ETSU in three statistical categories this season with 484 assists, 213 digs and 20 service aces. Abbey Thomas leads the squad with 65.0 total blocks this season and Brianna Cantrell stands out offensively with 209 kills.

ETSU defeated UNCG over four sets in Johnson City, Tenn., in the two teams' first conference meeting this season. The Bucs lead in the overall series against the Spartans at 31-12.

The Spartans will conclude its regular season road schedule next week with a trip to South Carolina. The team will face Wofford on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. and The Citadel on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
