Furman Takes Straight Set Match to Volleyball

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team lost in a straight set match to Furman (17-25, 17-25, 17-25) on Friday night in Fleming Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set of the match went back-and-forth early on with six ties and two lead changes. However, with the game tied at five points apiece, a service error from the Spartans, followed by a kill from the Paladins' Genevieve Perry put the visiting team up by two (7-5). Furman was able to maintain the lead for the remainder of the set. The Paladins ended set one with a 4-0 run to earn it, 25-17.

Furman continued its momentum into the second set to never allow the Spartans to lead. However, with UNCG down 14-21, a kill from Aylin Baran started a 3-1 run to cut the deficit to five (17-22). The Paladins were able to respond with a 3-0 run to claim the second set, 25-17.

UNCG found its stride in the third set with kills from Baran and America Anderson putting the team up first in the game. The Spartans continued to hold the lead in set three until Furman recorded five unanswered points to take the lead (14-11) and hold it for the rest of the game. Another 5-0 run gave Furman set three, 25-17 to claim the match in straight sets.
