Quick Hitters for the Spartans
- UNCG heads into the weekend with a 1-11 overall record and 0-12 in The Southern Conference (SoCon).
- The Spartans most recently dropped a straight set match at Chattanooga last Thursday but came up short in a five-set thriller to ETSU at home on Saturday.
- Head Coach Felicia Turner gained her first win as a head coach on Friday, Sept. 8 with a 3-0 sweep over USC Upstate at the Black & Gold Classic, hosted by App State
- Izora Gragg led the Spartans as the setter last week by collecting 69 total assists for an 8.63 assists per set average over eight sets. The freshman notched a new career high of 40 assists in the team's matchup to ETSU on Saturday.
- Hallie Cook led the way offensively last week after capturing 21 kills over eight sets. Cook recorded her second career double-double on Saturday against ETSU with 15 kills and 13 digs.
- America Anderson captured 6.0 total blocks over eight sets on the week with 4.0 of those blocks coming in Thursday's match to Chattanooga alone. Anderson added eight kills and two digs on the week.
- Aylin Baran continues to lead UNCG at the net with 246 kills on the 2023 season. The freshman stands at seventh in the conference in total kills.
Scouting Wofford
The Terriers stand at fourth place in the SoCon with a 16-7 overall record and 7-5 in conference. Wofford went 1-1 on the road last weekend after dropping a straight set match at Samford but took a five-set win over Furman.
Sarah Barham and Millie Loehr stand in first and second place in the conference in total blocks with 100 and 79, respectively.
Barham leads the team on the outside with 181 kills this season. Emily Hodson stands on top in two statistical categories with 492 assists and 30 service aces.
The Spartans lead in the overall series against the Terriers at 33-18. Wofford took a four-set match to UNCG earlier this season in Fleming Gymnasium. UNCG was the first team to take a set from Wofford in the Terriers' 2023 SoCon slate.
Scouting The Citadel
The Citadel currently leads the conference with a 23-1 overall record and 11-1 in the SoCon. The Bulldogs most recently took their first loss of the season at Western Carolina in a five-set back-and-forth battle.
Three Bulldogs stand in first place in five different statistical categories in the conference this season. Maddy Cardenas leads with a .378 hitting percentage, Belle Hogan is first with 1102 assists and Alli Ruffin paces the conference with 439 kills, 40 service aces and 493 points.
Jaelynn Elgert and Gina DeLancey lead the squad on the defensive end, as Elgert with 443 digs and DeLancey with 71.0 total blocks.
UNCG leads in the overall series against The Citadel at 34-10. The two teams met earlier this season in Fleming Gymnasium when the Bulldogs defeated the Spartans over four sets.
