Men’s Basketball Opens Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship with Kansas City Friday

NASSAU, THE BAHAMAS – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team continues its five-game road slate with three games in the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship. The Spartans will open the tournament against the Kansas City Roos on Friday, November 24 with a start time of 11:00 a.m.
 
UNCG is 2-1 heading into the tournament opener, while Kansas City is 2-2 overall.

The tournament also includes Brown, Delaware, Middle Tennessee, UIC, Ohio, and George Washington. The winner of this game will play in semifinal contest against the winner of Brown/Delaware.
 
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
  • The Spartans defeated No. 14 Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas at the Bud Walton Arena in front of a sold-out crowd, 78-72.
  • This was the first ranked win in Division I program history and first SEC win for the Spartans.
  • Three Spartans scored double figures, including Keyshaun Langley who registered a game-high 23 points.
  • Mikeal Brown-Jones scored 17 points.
  • Joryam Saizonou tallied a season-high 12 points.
  • UNCG outshot Arkansas from behind the arc (37.5-17.4).
  • UNCG also had the edge in field goals, 48.1-43.6.
  • Arkansas shot 80-percent from the charity stripe, compared to UNCG's 73.9-percent.
  • Saizonou and Jalen Breath each had five rebounds.
 
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
  • Currently, the Spartans are ranked nationally in the top 50 in three categories: 23rd in three pointers per game (10.3), 41st in free throw percentage (76.7), and 48th in three-point attempts per game (27.3).
  • They are leading the conference in assist/turnover ratio (1.48) and free throw percentage (76.7).
  • Kobe is ninth in the nation in assists per game (6.7).
  • Keyshaun is 25th in the nation in three pointers per game (3.33) and 34th in points per game (20.3).
  • He is 44th nationally and leading the SoCon in free throw percentage (92.9).
  • Keyshaun was named SoCon Player of the Week (Nov. 20).
  • UNCG earned a preseason CollegeInsider.com ranking of 25th and is currently seventh in week two.
  • The Spartans were voted to finish second in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll and fourth in the Media Poll. They received one first-place vote in the Coaches' Poll.
  • Keyshaun and Brown-Jones were selected to the SoCon Preseason All-SoCon team.
  • The Spartans return eight from last year's roster, while adding three transfers and three freshmen.
  • UNCG will travel to Chattanooga (Jan. 13) and host Western Carolina (Feb. 21) on the CBS Sports Network.
  • The Spartans will travel to Furman (Feb. 4) and host Samford (Feb. 8) on ESPNU.
  • The Spartans traveled to Dakar, Senegal and Paris, France this summer for their international trip.
 
SCOUTING THE ROOS
  • Kansas City concluded the 2022-23 season 11-21 overall and 7-11 in The Summit League.
  • The Roos were voted to finish eighth in The Summit League in the preseason poll.
  • The Roos are coming off back-to-back losses, including an 84-61 setback to Colorado State and a 99-61 deficit to No. 15 Baylor.
  • Nationally as a team, the Roos are 11th in turnovers forced per game (18.50), 32nd in offensive rebounds per game (14.75), and 58th in bench points per game (29.25).
  • They lead their league in scoring defense (68.2), steals per game (8.5), turnover margin (5.2), and turnovers forced per game.
  • Kansas City is outscoring its opponents 296-273 and outrebounding opponents 145-128.
  • Anderson Kopp is leading the Roos and is 61st nationally in assist/turnover ratio (3.25).
  • Kopp is averaging 14.0 points per game to lead the team, while Jamar Brown is second averaging 13.5 points per game.
  • Kopp also is averaging 5.0 rebounds per game to pace the Roos.
  • Artese Stapleton has 2.0 steals per game.
