JOHNSON CITY, TENN. – Freshman
Arnaud Tattevin scored the lone goal for the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team, who was seeded fourth, as the Spartans fell to the fifth-seeded Mercer Bears, 3-1, on Friday afternoon at Summers-Taylor Stadium. The Southern Conference (SoCon) quarterfinal was hosted by ETSU.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears came into the game with intensity and had the first shot on goal of the game at 6:19. The Spartans'
Jarrett Payne made the save out to the right. Mercer continued to control the game into the 30
th minute, and the Bears' Nick Wanzer was inside the 18-yard box striking the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
UNCG responded 10 minutes later as Tattevin scored the equalizer.
Donovan Roux entered the 18-yard box and found
Jack Birch at the top, sending a through ball to Tattevin who turned and put away a goal at 40:05.
The Spartans came out of the break and tallied three shots in the first seven minutes, while the Bears had one. In the 62
nd minute with a scramble in the box, Mercer took the lead with a goal by Barzee Blama. Three minutes later at 64:53, the Bears' Ehi Aimiuwu extended the lead to two, 3-1. UNCG concluded the half with four shots to Mercer's two as the Bears held on for the win and will advance to the SoCon semifinal on Sunday, November 5 against the top-seeded ETSU.
