WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team took to the courts against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans played well in spots but were overmatched by the Deacons falling by a score of 7-0.
"I told the team before we played today, that this was a statement match," says Head Coach
Paul Thomson. "Not for Wake or for the SoCon or anyone that follows our team. It was a statement match for us. All that really matters is what we think and how we feel about ourselves. We are working towards a team identity. Stepping up and playing matches like this is part of that process. We have to believe in ourselves. Trust ourselves. Validate ourselves. When we decide who we want to be, it will all come together. The wins and losses do not mean anything unless we learn who we are and what we are all about. It is our own self-esteem and confidence that is going to shape our future as a program."
The Spartans will take a couple of days off with the next match being played on the road Feb 23 at UNCW before finishing the weekend with a home date against Davidson on Feb 25.
