Samford then saw its largest lead of six in the first half following an 11-5 run, 26-20. Four of UNCG's 13 three pointers came in that time, as well as a Bas Leyte dunk at 13:55. A 15-6 run by the Bulldogs cut the deficit to three, 53-56. Kennedy made three-straight free throws after being fouled in the process of shooting behind the arc, putting the Spartans up six, 59-53. A 19-4 run for Samford gave it a nine-point lead, 72-63. Bubba Parham made three-straight free throws for Samford's own 12-point lead, 80-68, with 1:02 left.
