GREENSBORO, N.C.- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team opened the season with an 11-0 upset to non-conference foe Northeastern on Friday night at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the five innings that
Hunter Shuey threw, he gave up three hits, five walks, and tied his career best of five strikeouts, holding the Huskies scoreless.
The Spartans loaded the bases in the fifth inning after
Bradley Bott walked,
Rowan Watt singled to right field, and
Kennedy Jones singled. Northeastern got out of the jam with a strikeout and a fielder's choice.
Northeastern drove in five runs on three hits in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead and then extended its advantage to 11 with six runs on four hits in the top of the seventh.
Junior transfer
Caleb Cozart made his debut as a Spartan on the mound in the top of the seventh, while freshmen
Julien Peissel and
Grant Aycock also made their debuts in the Blue & Gold.
Watt, Jones,
Dallas Callahan and
Daniel Cerda each had a hit in the game. Cerda tallied his 10th-career double.
On Deck
UNCG will continue the series with a game on Saturday at 2 p.m. and then finish with a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday.
The Spartans continue the home stand by hosting Wake Forest on Tuesday, February 21
st, with a first pitch at 4 p.m.
