Baseball Drops Third Game to Northeastern

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team fell to the Northeastern Huskies in a tough battle on Sunday afternoon, 9-12, at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
 
Zack Budzik had a triple to left field for three RBIs in the third inning to bring Daniel Cerda, Mitchell Smith, and Kennedy Jones home for an early 3-0 lead.
 
Budzik led the Spartans swinging 3-for-4 at the plate, with one run scored, four RBIs, and one walk. Kennedy Jones went 3-for-6 with one run scored and two RBIs. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshman Rob Ready had his first start of the season and of his college career, pitching four innings. 
 
Northeastern responded with four runs in the top of the fourth on an RBI from Alex Lane and a three-run home run from Jimmy Sullivan for a 4-3 advantage.
 
The Spartans continued to the fight in the bottom of the fourth with Jones having an RBI single to right center, scoring Dallas Callahan from second to tie the game at four.

The Huskies put up two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings. 
 
Budzik, Cerda, and Smith all reached base in the bottom of the fifth, as Dosi Jonas doubled down the right-field line for three RBIs. UNCG continued the fifth with an RBI single from Jones driving home Jonas third.

Both teams scored a run in the eighth to tie the game at nine runs each.
 
The Huskies had their second home run of the game in the top of the ninth from Tyler MacGregor, a two-run blast to right field. Continuing to add to its lead, Northeastern Danny Crossen had a double to center field, scoring Lane from third, 12-9.

On Deck
UNCG will host Wake Forest for its first of two games this season on Tuesday, February 21, with a first pitch at 4 p.m. 
 
The Spartans continue the seven-game home stand by hosting Notre Dame for a three-game series, February 24 through February 26, slated for 4 p.m., 2 p.m., and 1 p.m., in respective order.
