BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team fell to in-state foe Gardner-Webb on Sunday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex, 6-1.
The Runnin' Bulldogs doubles pairing of Cathal Butler and Sebastian Harris got past
Harrison Gwynn and
Devon Moskowitz on court three with a score of 6-0, as the first match to finish. On court one,
David Flisberg and
John Gabelic fought back and forth with Gardner-Webb's duo, eventually falling 4-6.
With the doubles point decided in favor of the Runnin' Bulldogs,
Christopher Johns and
Tymofiy Khrystyuk's doubles match ended unfinished with Gardner-Webb up, 5-4.
In singles play, Khrystyuk was the lone Spartan to come up on top. He fell 4-6 in the first set and bounced back in set two, 7-5. With the match decided, Khrystyuk took Gardner-Webb's Victor Putter into a match tie breaker and claimed victory, 10-7.
Johns' match on court five was the only other match to go into a match tiebreaker set. The Runnin' Bulldogs' Harris forced a tiebreaker set in the first set where Johns won 7-3. Sebastian Harris had the advantage in the second set, 6-2, and defeated Johns in the match tiebreaker set, 10-5.
