GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team won it's fifth straight game with a 56-54 victory over Chattanooga Saturday night at Fleming Gym on senior night.
Akira Wiggins led the Spartans with double points, scoring 14.
This is longest winning streak for the Spartans since the 2019-20 season, when they went on an eight-game winning streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In a back-and-forth first quarter, Chattanooga ended the frame with a three-point lead, 13-10.
Chattanooga went scoreless for two minutes, as Takia Davis put the Mocs up five, 15-10 with a layup. The Spartans were able to tie the game up three times in the frame, once with a free throw by
Akira Wiggins (15-15), then a jumper from
Nia Howard at 2:35 (24-24), and again with a free throw from
Khalis Cain with 30 seconds left in the quarter, (29-29). The two teams went to the locker rooms tied, 30-30.
An 8-4 run in the first four minutes and nine seconds of the third quarter had Chattanooga up four points, 38-34. The Spartans saw seven-straight points to hold a one-point advantage, 39-38. The Mocs concluded the frame with a 9-4 run for a four-point lead, 47-43, which included two three pointers in less than a minute.
The Spartans were strong on the defensive side, making the Mocs go scoreless for four minutes and 45 seconds.
Isys Grady had a jumper to bring the lead to five, the biggest in the frame, with 1:46 left in the frame.
Khalis Cain had a free throw in the last second to seal the win by two points, 56-54.

- UNCG outscored Chattanooga 13-7 in the fourth quarter.
