GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to Indiana in the final game of the UNCG Invitational on Sunday at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
The Spartans lost 17-2 in five innings. They are now 9-7 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Indiana scored at least one run in each of the five innings played. The Hoosiers scored three runs on three hits in the first inning for the lead and added a run in the top of the second.
UNCG cut the deficit to two, 4-2, as
Delaney Cumbie led off the bottom of the first with a walk and scored from
Jorde Chartrand's RBI single up the middle. The Spartans then loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the second as Brown walked in a run.
The Hoosiers were unstoppable with eight runs in the third, two in the fourth, and three in the fifth.
NOTES
- Chartrand and Brooklynn Maxwell had the Spartans only hits of the game.
- Brown and Chartrand tallied one RBI each.

ON DECK
The Spartans continue their 13-game home stand with two games against in-state rival Elon this coming weekend. UNCG hosts the Phoenix on Friday, March 3 at 5:00 p.m. and then follow that game with one on Saturday, March 4 with a first pitch at 1:00 p.m.
The two teams conclude the three-game series on Sunday, March 5 with a first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m. in Elon, N.C. at Hunt Softball Park.
