GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team walked off in game one, 6-5, to Indiana behind a two-run home run from
Samantha Lagrama on Saturday afternoon at UNCG Softball Stadium.
The Spartans then fell to UConn in a pitching duel Saturday night, where the Huskies came up on top 2-0.
Game 1: UNCG 6 – Indiana 5
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Hoosiers got off to a 3-0 start with three runs on three hits in the top of the first.
The Spartans had a solo home run from
Maycin Brown in the first, 3-1, then
Jessie Shipley launched her own homer in the bottom of the second, 3-2.
Indiana extended its lead to two, 4-2, on a sacrifice fly from Minnick in the top of the third. UNCG responded in the bottom of the from, as Shipley singled to left field, bringing home Brown to cut the deficit to one, 4-3.
Both teams picked up a run in the fourth inning with a solo home run on each side.
Jaden Cheek crushed her second of the season to center field.
In three scoreless innings, Ward allowed just two Indiana base runners. In the bottom of the second with one out, Ward singled to left center and Lagrama sent out her first home run of the season for the game-winning hit, 6-5.
NOTES
- Maycin Brown went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
- Lagrama went 1-for-2 with two RBI, a run scored, and a walk.
- Shipley swung 3-for-3 with two RBI, a run scored, and a double.
- Cheek went 2-for-3 at the plate, with one RBI and a run scored.
- Ward tossed 3.2 innings in relief allowing just one hit and striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Huskies Payton Kinney dominated in the circle with 14 strikeouts in her first win of the season.
For the Spartans,
Salem Ward struck out five in the loss, tossing 4.2 innings, while giving up just two hits.
Maddie Spell came in to relieve Ward, throwing 2.1 innings, retiring two, and giving up two hits.
Blayke Batten had the lone hit for the Spartans, a double to right field in the bottom of the fourth.
UConn scored the first run on a fielder's choice in the top of the fifth and then extended the advantage to two on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth.
