Women’s Golf Ties for Fourth at River Landing

WALLACE, N.C. - Freshman Julia Baeumken posted a top-ten finish while the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team jumped two spots to claim a fourth-place finish at the end of the River Landing Classic Tuesday morning and afternoon at River Landing Golf Course.
 
Starting her round on the fifth hole, Baeumken posted a one-under-par score in her final nine holes to finish even-par (72). The freshman carded birdies on the front nine's par three holes and posted back-to-back birdies on the par four, 358-yard 18th hole and the par four, 368-yard first hole. The freshman tallied five total birdies on the day as she finished 54 holes seven-over-par (223). Baeumken's performance helped her climb 11 spots into the top-ten leaderboard into a tie for eighth place. This was her second top-10 finish of her collegiate career. 
 
Anna Bowman posted back-to-back birdies early in her round as she shot five-over-par (77) in her final round. Starting on the fifth hole, the senior carded birdies on the par three, 141-yard sixth hole and the par five, 488-yard seventh as part of a one-over-par (37) front nine. Bowman finished 12-over-par (228), cracking the top-20 leaderboard in a tie for 19th place.
 
Grace Holcomb posted two birdies in her final nine holes as the sophomore carded a final round four-over-par (76) scorecard. Starting on the sixth tee, Holcomb's first birdie came on the par four, 366-yard 16th hole. The sophomore carded her second birdie on the third hole. Holcomb posted a 54-hole total of 13-over-par (229), earning a tie for 22nd place.
 
UNCG jumped two spots and settled into a tie for fourth place with Princeton with a 54-hole total of 40-over-par (904) after posting a final round 13-over-par (301) as a team. The Spartans finished one shot behind High Point in third place and bested Southern Conference foe East Tennessee State by seven shots.
 
INSIDE THE SCORECARD
  • UNCG's eight-over-par on par three holes finished as the third-best effort on those holes.
  • The Spartans posted a seven-over-par effort on par fives, the fourth-best in the field.
  • With 27 birdies, the Spartans earned the third-most birdies in the field.
  • Baeumken and Holcomb led the Spartans on par four holes, each shooting six-over-par for the tournament.
  • Baeumken and Bowman were two of 13 golfers to shoot even-par or better on par three holes with each tallying an even-par effort throughout the tournament.
  • Bowman and Victoria Cook led the Spartans in par five scoring, posting an even-par effort throughout the tournament on the course's long holes.
  • Baeumken and Bowman each total seven birdies, tied for fifth-most in the field.
