Tommy Lamb made six birdies in his three-over-par first round effort. The junior carded four of his six birdies on the front nine, his second nine-hole stretch of the day, including a stretch of three birdies out of four holes beginning with the par four, 444-yard fifth hole and concluding on the par three, 233-yard eighth. Earlier in his round, Lamb birdied both back nine par five holes and then captured birdies on both par fives on the front nine to post a four-under-par score on those holes.

Nick Lyerly's three-over-par effort came with one birdie on the par five, 556-yard second hole. Starting his round on the tenth tee, the graduate student had 13 pars in his first round effort, shooting one-over-par (37) on the front nine to close his round.
