Women’s Golf Third at Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate After Round 2

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf sophomore Grace Holcomb led the Spartans in the second round with an even-par (71) scorecard as the Spartans hold on to third place through 36 holes of the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate at Caledonia Golf and Fish Club.
 
Holcomb's even-par effort lifted her 18 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 14th place. The sophomore Holcomb carded three birdies on the day with the first coming on the par four, 346-yard seventh hole. With back-to-back birdies on the back nine, Holcomb shot each side even par. Holcomb's first birdie in the stretch came on the par five, 462-yard 15th hole followed by the par four, 381-yard 16th. At even par, Holcomb was one of seven golfers on the day to shoot par or better.
 
Ava Romfo posted a three-over-par (74) second round scorecard with three birdies. The sophomore carded her first birdie on the par four, 380-yard fourth hole. Romfo followed with back-to-back birdies right at the turn on the par three, 112-yard ninth hole and the par five, 518-yard tenth. Romfo stands in a tie for eighth place through 36 holes at one-over-par (143), three shots off the lead.
 
Alex Phelps also shot three-over-par for the second round and stands in a tie for 17th overall at sixth-over-par (148). The performance helped Phelps move up ten spots on the leaderboard. The freshman opened her round with three-straight birdies and carded her fourth birdie on the day on the par five, 490-yard eighth hole. Phelps was one of three Spartans to birdie the par three, 150-yard 11th hole and birdied the other par three hole on the back nine at the 154-yard 17th.
 
UNCG held onto the third spot on the team leaderboard with a team score of 13-over-par (297) for the second round. That placed the Spartans at 21-over-par (589) over 36 holes. UNCG stands just two shots behind UNC Asheville for second place. James Madison holds the top spot at three-over-par (571).
