GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team extended its win streak to four with an explosive eighth inning to defeat Rutgers, 8-5, Saturday afternoon at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.
 
Kennedy Jones had his second home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh, to cut the deficit to two, 5-3. The Spartans' five-hit, five-run eighth inning was enough to take the win, 8-5. 

UNCG recorded 13 hits in the win, for its fifth game this season with double-digit hits. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
It was a pitcher's duel in the first couple of innings before Rutgers managed to score one run in the bottom of the third on a RBI single for a 1-0 lead. UNCG answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth with Jones scoring on a passed ball and a RBI double from Dallas Callahan, 2-1.
 
Rutgers added four runs on three hits and two errors to take the lead in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-2 advantage. One of the three hits included a solo home run from Evan Sleight, 5-2.

Callahan had a RBI single in the top of the eighth for the first of five runs. Caleb Cozart, Zack Budzik, and Dosi Jonas had their own RBI singles in the frame, as Mitchell Smith's sacrifice fly concluded the inning for an 8-5 win.

The Spartans conclude the three-game series against Rutgers on Sunday with a first pitch slated for 1 p.m. at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. 
 
Continuing the home stand, UNCG will host NC State on Tuesday, March 5 with a first pitch at 4 p.m. Tuesday will be a Bark in the Park event.
