BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team fell to Southern Conference foe Samford in its conference opener on Saturday.
Samford took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles. UNCG's
David Flisberg and
John Gabelic fought tooth and nail at No. 1 doubles earning a win 7-6 and 8-6 in the tiebreaker.
Five of six singles matches went two sets, where the Bulldogs took all five matches. Gabelic at No. 2 singles, fell 1-6 in set one, before taking set two 7-6 and forcing a match tie breaker where Samford's Maxwell Giddens won 10-5.
The Spartans kick off a five-match week with two matches in Virginia. UNCG will face Washington and Lee on Tuesday, March 7 with a start time of 3:30 p.m. in Lexington, Va. and then James Madison University on Wednesday, March 8 at 2 p.m.
UNCG then welcomes Lees-McRae (11 AM) and Guilford (4 PM) on Saturday, March 11 and then ETSU on Sunday, March 12 at 1 p.m. Both are scheduled to be played at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
