CHARLESTON, S.C.- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Charleston Southern Wednesday afternoon, with the Bucs winning game one 3-0 and the Spartans dominating game two, 12-0, in five innings.
The victory was the third shutout of the season for the Spartans and sixth run-rule game of the season.
UNCG improved to 13-8 overall, while Charleston Southern is 9-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Two of the Bucs' runs came in the bottom of the first inning as two RBI singles pushed runs across the plate.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Gracie Prince singled up the middle to lead off and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Harper Schoeneweis' single to right field brought home Prince for the third run of the game. Spell retired the side with a strikeout and then Schoeneweis was caught stealing third for the final out.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Five of UNCG's 12 runs came on bases loaded walks, with two in the first inning and three in the fifth.
Chartrand crushed her third homer of the season, a solo shot to right center, in the top of the third.
In the top of the fifth before three runs by walks, runners were on second and third and
Jessie Shipley tallied her fourth double of the season, a long ball to left field. With just one out and the bases juiced,
Rylie Williams crushed her first-collegiate hit, home run, and grand slam on a 2-0 count to extend UNCG's lead to 12-0.

- UNCG now has 23 home runs on the season
- Chartrand was the lone Spartan with a multi-hit game, swinging 2-for-3.
- Five other Spartans had one hit each, including Maycin Brown, Williams, Maxwell, Shipley, and Kiley McQuillan
- Chartrand tossed 5.0 innings, giving up five hits.
- UNCG totaled a season-high nine walks.

The Spartans continue its seven-game road trip traveling to Clemson, S.C. to compete in the Clemson Classic from Friday, March 10 to Sunday, March 12. The Spartans will take on the Clemson Tigers first on Friday. They will also play Jacksonville and Bryant at the tournament.
