HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Sophomore
Ava Romfo of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team cracked the top-five leaderboard as the Spartans remained seventh through two rounds of the Southern Conference (SoCon) Women's Golf Championship at Moss Creek Golf Club.
Romfo stands fifth place through 36 holes with a seven-over-par (151) total, five shots from fourth place and six shots from third. The sophomore carded two birdies on the back nine with the first on the par four, 346-yard 12th hole and the second on the par three, 141-yard 15th. Romfo shot two-over-par on the front nine on her way to a second round five-over-par (77) scorecard.
Grace Holcomb remains in the top 25 after a second round eight-over-par (80) effort. The sophomore rallied on the back nine to shoot two-over-par (38), capping the effort with a birdie on the par four, 357-yard 18th hole. Holcomb is one shot away from a top-20 spot on the leaderboard and three shots from the top 15.
The Spartans remain seventh with a 37-over-par (325) second round effort. Through 36 holes, UNCG stands 65-over-par (641), 11 shots behind Samford in sixth place.
