UNCG Athletics Hall of Fame
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) Intercollegiate Athletics will induct two NCAA Tournament qualifying women's soccer teams and four former women's soccer student-athletes into the Athletics Hall of Fame on October 21, 2023. This will mark the 18th class in program history.
"I look forward to celebrating this induction class, as we extend our celebration of 50 years of Title IX," stated Director of Athletics Brian Mackin. "The contributions that these two women's soccer teams made along with the four women's soccer individuals while they were at UNCG, will be rightly recognized and honored."
This year's Hall of Fame induction breakfast will be held in Cone Ballroom on UNCG campus. Additionally, the inductees will be recognized at halftime of the men's soccer game on Saturday, October 21, when the Spartans host Mercer at 7:00 p.m., as well as the halftime of the women's soccer game on Sunday, October 22, when the Spartans host VMI at 2:00 p.m.
This class includes:
- 1996 women's soccer team, received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Tournament, finished the season with a 16-6-1 overall record and was ranked ninth in the country.
- 1997 women's soccer team, first UNCG team to advance in the NCAA Division I Tournament by defeating Duke on the road before falling to Clemson, concluding the year with a 19-6 overall record.
- Heather Duryea '92, after 30 years, still top-10 ranked in team records for total goals (32) and points (75), two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, and the only women's soccer player to play all four positions on the field in competition.
- Joy Scott '97, a four-time All-Big South Conference women's soccer honoree and was part of the 1996 team that made the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance.
- Lynsey McLean Dixon '01, a four-time NCAA Tournament participant in women's soccer, she was named a four-time All-Southern Conference (SoCon) honoree, the 1997 SoCon Freshman of the Year, 2001 SoCon Player of the Year, and 2000 SoCon Tournament MVP.
- Shannon Donovan Welch '08, the 2006 SoCon Women's Soccer Player of the Year, 2006 Tournament MVP, and three-time All-SoCon first team awardee.
