HARRISONBURG, Va. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team fell to the James Madison University (JMU) Dukes, 3-0, Sunday evening in a non-conference match-up in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
HOW IT HAPPENED
An even match-up between JMU and UNCG left the first half scoreless, with passion holding around the midfield line. The Spartans' best chance came at 42:01 when junior
Mel Herrera dribbled past the back line for UNCG's only shot of the half. Despite the Dukes having eight shots, goalkeeper
Emma Malone had two saves in the first half.
JMU came out firing in the second half, when three minutes in the ball found the Dukes' Ellie Johnson's feet in the six-yard box to get past Malone for the game's first goal, 1-0. The Spartans' defense went into action, seeing more back-and-forth possession.
At 80:50, JMU's Johnson found herself at the top of the 18-yard box to strike the ball into the top left corner to put the Dukes up 2-0. With eight minutes to go, Madison Attanasi kicked one to the back of the net to seal the win for JMU, 3-0.
BY THE NUMBERS
- This is the fifth time in history that UNCG has faced JMU with a record of 2-2-1.
