Women's Soccer Heads to Charlotte

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team starts a two-game road stint at Charlotte on Thursday evening to play at the Transamerica Field for a start time of 7 p.m.
 
This will be the fourth time in the last 10 years that the two in-state rivals will meet. UNCG took the season opening win last year, 2-1, behind two goals from sophomore Ryen Ortiz.

Most Recently, the 49ers had back-to-back clean sheets against Coastal Carolina, 3-0 and The Citadel, 1-0. The 49ers average 12.3 shots per game compared to their opponents averaging 6.0 per game. Macey Bader, Payton Patrick and Julia Patrum were all named to the American Athletic Conference Watch List. This will be Charlotte's first year being a part of the American Athletic Conference, being voted third in the preseason East Division.
 
Quick Hitters for the Spartans
  • UNCG fell to George Washington, 2-1, this past Sunday, despite out-shooting George Washington 13-5.
  • Mel Herrera recorded her second career goal against the Revolutionaries. Bailey Gourdine's assist to Herrera was the freshman's first assist of her collegiate career. 
  • Freshman Katie Koncal had the most shots for the Spartans on Sunday with three, while the freshman only saw 27 minutes in the match.
  • The Spartans started the season blanking Army, 2-0 at home. This was the first time since 2020 that UNCG has started the season with a shutout.
  • Mairead Gayer had her first collegiate goal against Army.
  • Ava Kiss had her second career game with an assist and goal. Haydan Erck earned her first collegiate assist in the game against the Army.
  • Sophomore Emma Malone had her first shutout of the season and her third career shutout against Army.
  • The Spartans were voted second in the SoCon Coaches' Preseason poll.
  • Fifth-year Gabi SantoraParker Sikora, and Malone were named to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference team.
