GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team returns home for two-straight matches, beginning the stretch with No. 13 Louisville on Friday, September 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. This will be the second ranked opponent that the Spartans have faced this season.
The Spartans are 15th in the TopDrawerSoccer national poll during week one of play, while they are also 24th in the College Soccer News national poll.
Louisville is ranked No. 13 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and No. 29 in the College Soccer News national poll.
This will be the third meeting between the two teams. UNCG holds the series 1-0-1 against the Cardinals. Last season, the Spartans traveled to Kentucky and played to a 1-1 draw. The first meeting in program history was on October 24, 1993 when the Spartans won 7-2.

SPARTAN QUICK HITTERS
- UNCG won The 2022 Southern Conference (SoCon) Regular Season and Tournament Championships, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. This was the program's 10th Division I bid into the tournament and 19th overall bid.
- The Spartans reached the 2022 NCAA Quarterfinals after earning a first-round bye, and defeating Ohio State and Stanford.
- With last season's 13-2-6 record, this was the second-straight year with 10 or more wins, under the direction of fifth-year Head Coach Chris Rich.
- UNCG was voted to finish first in the SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll, while Emmanuel Hagan, Ethan Conley, and Basile Marc earned Preseason All-Conference honors. All three were named to SoCon All-Conference teams.
- Hagan, Conley, and Marc were named captains this season.
- The Spartans feature 15 returners, 10 freshman, and three transfers.
- UNCG opened the season at home and played to a 1-1 draw to the California Golden Bears, in a game that was played over two days and five hours and 25 minutes due to inclement weather.
- Freshman Arnaud Tattevin scored his first-collegiate goal, while Nabil Homssa, and Donovan Roux each tallied their first assists as a Spartan against the Bears.
- Most recently, the Spartans faced their first ranked opponent of the season with then-ranked No. 14 Maryland, falling 2-0, in their first road contest.
SCOUTING LOUISVILLE
- Louisville is 2-0 heading into the match with back-to-back clean sheets.
- The Cardinals shut out then-ranked No. 16 Tulsa, 1-0, and then defeated Bellarmine, 3-0.
- Konstantinos Georgallides leads the Cardinals with one goal and one assist for three points, while three from Louisville have one goal each.
- In net, Alex Svetanoff has started and played in the opening two games, tallying seven saves.
- Svetanoff was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week, while Bryce LeBel was voted to the TopDrawerSoccer Men's Team of the Week.
- Louisville was voted to finish fourth in the ACC Preseason Coaches Poll Atlantic Division.
- Sander Roed was named to the 2023 United Soccer Coaches Preseason Players to Watch Midfielders and the 2023 ACC Preseason Watch List.
- Gage Guerra was named to the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and the 2023 United Soccer Coaches Preseason Players to Watch Forwards.
- The 2022 Cardinals finished 9-6-3 overall and 4-3-1 in ACC play. They earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament and fell to Western Michigan, 2-1 in overtime in the opening round.
