CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Queen City Invite on Friday evening at the McAlpine Creek Park.
The men were the runners up out of 14 teams in the eight-kilometer race. The women finished third overall out of 12 teams in the five-kilometer race.
Men
The Spartans totaled 65 points, good for second place, while the host team Queens tallied 35 points for the team title. Davidson was a close third with 72 points.
Junior
Ethan Long led the way for the Spartans finishing fourth with a time of 25:18.7. Long, along with two other Spartans, finished in the top 10.
Sophomore
Luke Ward placed ninth overall with a time of 25:46.8, while junior
Colin Keck immediately followed in 10
th crossing the finish line in 25:46.9.
Sophomore
Zachary Taylor earned points for the team award, finishing 15
th with a time of 25:55.5. Classmate
Andrew Hamilton was the next Blue & Gold across the finish line taking home 40
th overall with a time of 27:03.3.
Three Spartans ran in their first collegiate race, including
Samuel Barnard,
Logan Thanos, and
Judah Weesner.
Women
On the women's side, the Spartans totaled 69 points, 15 points shy of second-place SCAD Savannah with 54 points. Host school, Queens tallied 29 points earning the team victory.
Senior
Jenna Reiter paced the Spartans with a sixth-place finish and a time of 18:30.4, while sophomore Victoria Sosa was eighth with her time of 18:32.6. Both were the two Spartans who earned top-10 marks.
Junior
Camille Carlson was the next Blue & Gold across the finish line, placing 22nd with a time of 19:09.2. Senior
Shay Soukup followed in 25
th place with a time of 19:28.9.
Junior
Laila Burk rounded out the top-five finishers for the Spartans, finishing 34
th overall with a time of 19:57.7.
Freshman
Tenley Douglass competed in her first collegiate race taking home 36
th with a time of 20:02.5.
UP NEXT
The Spartans take a week off before heading to Conway, South Carolina to compete in the Chanticleer Challenge on Friday, September 29, hosted by Coastal Carolina, at the Hackler Golf Course. The women's five-kilometer race is scheduled to start at 5 p.m., while the men's eight-kilometer race is slated to begin at 5:45 p.m.
