KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's cross country teams competed in its second race of the season at Ivey Redmon Sports Complex on Friday evening.
The men took home the team title out of the 12-team field earning 18 points, while the women finished third out of 14 teams totaling 70 points. Wake Forest (23 points) and Liberty (32 points) placed first and second, respectively, on the women's side.
This is the first team win for the men since Oct. 15, 2021, when the Spartans took home the title at the ECU Pirate Invitational.
MEN'S RACE
Sophomore
Logan Ruffner and freshman Luke Hühn finished first and second, respectively, in the Spartans' first eight-kilometer race of the season. Ruffner clocked in a time of 25:40.5. Hühn, in his first collegiate race, crossed the finish line in 25:43.7.
Sophomore
Pierson Guerrant followed Ruffner and Hühn, taking home third out of the field of 116 competitors with a time of 25:58.3. Senior
Lane Prochaska was one of the six Spartans to finish in the top-10, placing fifth with his time of 26:42.1.
Junior
Khalid Abdullahi and freshman
Spencer Slayton rounded out the Spartans' top-10 finishes, earning eighth and ninth, respectively. Abdullahi clocked in a time of 26:54.6 and Slayton finished the race in 26:56.2.
Senior
Luke Ward, in his first race of the season, took home 12
th with a time of 27:08.2, rounding out the Spartans earning points towards the team finish.
WOMEN'S RACE
Five women placed in the top-20 out of the field of 102 competitors. Graduate student
Emma Berrier led the way with her 14
th-place finish and time of 18:43.7 in the five-kilometer race. Freshman
Camryn Oates also finished the race under 19 minutes, taking home 15
th with a time of 18:52.5.
Freshmen
Erica Rash and
Sarah Fassinger and graduate student
Sierra Collins crossed the finish line in 16
th, 17
th and 18
th, respectively. Rash clocked in a time of 19:00.6, Fassinger ran a time of 19:02.2 and Collins finished in 19:03.0.
Sophomore
Hailey Meyers and senior
Kaitlyn Harrison rounded out the Spartans that earned points towards the team total. Meyers earned 26
th placed with her time of 20:22.0, while Harrison placed 30
th with a time of 20:42.6.

UNCG will take a week off before the men prepare for the Panorama Farms Invitational, hosted by Virginia, on Friday, Oct. 17 in Charlottesville, Virginia, and the women will train for the Upstate Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 18 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, at Roger Milliken Center.
