Men’s Cross Country to Compete at NCAA Regionals

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's cross country team will compete in the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 14 in Charlottesville, Virginia, at Panorama Farms.

Virginia will be the host institution. The women's six-kilometer race will begin at 10:00 a.m., while the men's 10-kilometer race is set for 11:00 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Spartans placed third at the 2025 Southern Conference Championships at Tryon Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, North Carolina.
  • This finish matches last year's result of third place, which was the best mark since the 2011* season when UNCG was crowned champion. This is the sixth* time in program history that UNCG has finished third or better.
  • Freshman Luke Hühn led the charge with his time of 25:24.8 in the eight-kilometer run. He finished 12th out of 79 competitors.
  • He earned SoCon All-Freshman team honors, Second team recognition and was voted, by the coaches, as SoCon Freshman of the Year. He is just the second** SoCon Freshman of the Year for UNCG since Paul Katam earned the honor in 2011.
  • Junior Khalid Abdullahi also finished in the top 20, placing 18th with his time of 25:45.9. Abdullahi bested his mark from last year, where he finished in 50th place.
  • Sophomore Logan Ruffner earned a 22nd-place finish with his time of 25:58.8, which was higher than his 29th-place mark from last year's championship.
  • Classmate Pierson Guerrant wasn't far behind with his time of 26:06.2, taking home 25th place, besting his 2024 mark of 51st place.
HISTORY AT REGIONALS
  • Ruffner and Ward are the only two from this lineup that have competed in a NCAA Regional. Ruffner competed in the 2024 Regional Championships and Ward has run in all three as a Spartan.
  • The men finished in 22nd in the 2024 Regionals and 30th in 2023.
  • During the 2022 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, the men placed 19th which was the best mark since 2013 when the team posted an 11th-place mark.
  • In 2021, the squad placed 20th out of 30 teams.

UP NEXT
  • The top two teams out of each of the nine regional meets qualify automatically for the NCAA Division I Championships, which will take place in Columbia, Missouri on Saturday, Nov. 22.
  • On Saturday, Nov. 15, the NCAA Cross Country Selection Committee will announce 14 at-large selections via a selection show at 5 p.m. ET.
  • Thirty-eight individuals will be selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process.
  • The first four regional finishers not from an automatic qualifying or at-large team also secure an auto-bid to the championships.
