Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Heads to SoCon Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's cross country teams will begin postseason competition with The 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Tryon Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, North Carolina.  

The women's five-kilometer race begins at 10 a.m. and the women's eight-kilometer race will follow at 10:45 a.m. At the conclusion of the men's race, there will be an awards ceremony to recognize the top teams and individual runners.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTAN WOMEN
  • The women's team placed seventh out of 23 teams totaling 242 points at the Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
  • Freshman Sarah Fassinger paced the Spartans, placing 25th out of 217 competitors in the five-kilometer race, clocking in a time of 18:40.5.
  • Classmate Camryn Oates followed in 51st place with her time of 18:57.7.
  • Graduate student Emma Berrier also finished in under 19 minutes, taking home 57th placed with a time of 18:59.9.
ABOUT THE SPARTAN WOMEN
  • The women's squad was voted to finish seventh in 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • At the 2024 SoCon Championships, Vicky Sosa earned a career-best place, finishing 22nd out of 84 competitors, while the team took seventh out of 10 teams.
  • The women return eight from last year's roster and added seven newcomers.
  • The women placed 10th out of 14 teams at the Spartans' first five-kilometer race of the season at the adidas XC Challenge held at the WakeMed Soccer Complex Cross Country Course on Sept. 19.
  • Berrier, Sierra Collins and Oates cleared the top-100 for the Spartans. Berrier was the first Blue & Gold to cross the finish line placing 81st out of 147 competitors with a time of 19:02.8.
  • Most recently, the women placed third out of 14 teams at their own Spartan Classic on Oct. 3.
  • Five women placed in the top-20 out of the field of 102 competitors with Berrier leading the way with her 14th-place finish and time of 18:43.7 in the five-kilometer race.
  • Oates also finished the race in under 19 minutes, taking home 15th place with a time of 18:52.5.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTAN MEN
  • The Spartan men placed ninth out of 15 teams totaling 286 points at the Panorama Invitational in Charlottesville, Virginia.
  • Freshman Luke Hühn led the charge with his time of 25:30.3 in the eight-kilometer run, finishing 77th out of 169 competitors. He was one of five Spartans to place in the top 100.
  • Junior Khalid Abdullahi was the next Spartan to cross the finish line with his time of 25:37.8, taking home 83rd place.
  • Senior Luke Ward wasn't far behind, as he finished in 87th place with a time of 25:51.3.
ABOUT THE SPARTAN MEN
  • The men's team was voted to finish fourth in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • The men impressed the field during the 2024 SoCon Championships, placing third for its best mark in over 10 years.
  • The Spartans then competed in the NCAA Division I Cross Country Southeast Regional Championships, where they finished in 22nd out of 33 teams.
  • The men return 12 from last year's roster and have added five newcomers.
  • UNCG finished seventh out of 14 teams totaling 216 points in the Spartans' first six-kilometer race of the season at the adidas XC Challenge held at WakeMed Soccer Complex Cross Country Course on Sept. 19.
  • Logan Ruffner paced the way for the Spartans, finishing 36th out of 158 competitors with a time of 19:13.1. Lane Prochaska was the next Blue & Gold to cross the finish line taking home 41st overall with a time of 19:17.1.
  • Most recently, UNCG won its own Spartan Classic on Oct. 3 out of 12 teams. This is the first team win for the men since Oct. 15, 2021, when the Spartans took home the title at the ECU Pirate Invitational.
  • Ruffner (25:40.5) and Hühn, in his first collegiate race (25:43.7), finished first and second, respectively.

UP NEXT
The NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships will follow on Friday, Nov. 14 in Charlottesville, Virginia, at Panorama Farms. The women's six-kilometer race will begin at 10 a.m. and the men's 10-kilometer race will follow at 11 a.m.
