CARY, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's cross country teams kicked off their schedule with the adidas XC Challenge at WakeMed Soccer Complex Cross Country Course on Friday evening.
The Spartan men finished seventh out of 14 teams totaling 216 points in the six-kilometer race. North Carolina took home the team title for the men with 15 points.
The Spartan women placed 10th overall out of 14 teams with 317 points in their five-kilometer run, while host NC State won the team title with 38 points.
MEN
Two Spartans placed in the top-50, including
Logan Ruffner who led the way, finishing 36
th out of 158 competitors with a time of 19:13.1.
Lane Prochaska was the next Blue & Gold to cross the finish line taking home 41
st overall with a time of 19:17.1.
Pierson Guerrant ran a time of 19:27.6, good for 53
rd overall, while
Khalid Abdullahi finished the race in 19:59.4 placing in 70
th.
Donovan Johnson and
Spencer Slayton finished in 78
th and 94
th places, respectively. Johnson clocked in a time of 20:11.9 and Slayton ran the six-kilometer race in 20:36.0.
Jay Guy rounded out the Spartans' team score with his 97
th place finish and time of 20:40.3.
WOMEN
Emma Berrier,
Sierra Collins and
Camryn Oates cleared the top-100 for the Spartans. Berrier was the first Blue & Gold to cross the finish line placing 81
st out of 147 competitors with a time of 19:02.8. Collins finished just seven seconds after Berrier with a time of 19:09.0, good for 83
rd place. Oates took home 89
th with her time of 19:28.0.
Erica Rash finished the five-kilometer race in 19:54.6, placing 102
nd overall.
Hailey Meyers (119th/20:33.1) and
Kaitlyn Harrison (129
th/21:36.2) rounded out the Spartans' scoring.

The Spartans will host the Spartan Classic on Friday, Oct. 3 in Kernersville, North Carolina, at Ivey Redmon Sports Complex. The men's college/open eight-kilometer race will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the women's college/open five-kilometer race will start at 5:45 p.m.
