Women's Soccer Hosts East Carolina in Non-Conference Matchup

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team concludes non-conference play hosting East Carolina (ECU) on Sunday, September 17 at the UNCG Soccer Stadium with a kickoff at 1 p.m.  
 
UNCG and ECU have met seven times, all since 2010. UNCG holds the edge with a 4-3 record, winning 2-0 in last season's matchup. In that match, Gabi Santora and Ava Kiss, each scored one goal at the Johnson Stadium in Greenville, N.C.

SCOUTING EAST CAROLINA  
 
The Pirates are coming off a 1-0 win against American Athletic Conference opponent Florida Atlantic. ECU currently has an overall record of 5-2-2 and 1-0 record to lead the east division in the American Conference. ECU is nationally ranked 52nd in goals against average (0.667), 53rd in shutout percentage (0.556), and 77th in save percentage (0.818). Senior goalkeeper Maeve English is nationally ranked fourth and is leading the American in shutouts with five.  
 
QUICK HITTERS FOR THE SPARTANS 
  • UNCG most recently battled to a 1-0 loss against No. 14 Duke in a two-day match due to weather.  
  • Emma Malone had a total of four saves against the Blue Devils.  
  • Taylor Mentzer had an incredible goal from about 36 yards out for her first collegiate goal against Coastal Carolina.  
  • Haydan Erck and Bailey Gourdine have each earned two assists in the seven games played this season. Ryen Ortiz and Kiss have tallied one assist each this season.  
  • Caroline Woods and Kiss both have scored two goals this season. Dalani Stephens, Mel Herrera, and Mairead Gayer have all scored one goal each.   
  • Malone and fifth-year Abby Buchholz have tallied two combined shutouts, including against Elon and Coastal Carolina.  
  • UNCG is nationally ranked 65th in shutout percentage (0.500) and 87th in goals-against average (0.875). 
  • The Spartans top their opponents in shots on goal percentage, 0.507 to 0.380.  
  • On average, UNCG has 4.50 corners per game compared to its opponent's 3.25 corners per game.
