Akron Outlasts Volleyball, 3-0

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team took a 3-0 loss to Akron on Saturday to close out the Marshall Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Akron)
A service ace from the Zips' Eliska Vytiskova put Akron on the board first in the match. Game one went back-and-forth early on seeing several ties and lead changes. The Spartans took a 9-8 lead thanks to a service ace and kill from Aylin Baran. However, a kill from Akron's Faith Johnson sparked a 4-0 run that allowed the Zips to take the lead and hold it for the rest of the set. Three consecutive kills from Johnson gave the Zips set one, 25-15

Set two was more of a close game throughout seeing 12 ties and seven lead changes. However, with the game being tied at 15, the Zips notched a 7-0 run to take the lead and hold it for the rest of the second set. Back-to-back kills from Akron's Lauren Baker and Johnson gave the Zips set two (25-18) to put the Akron squad one game away from claiming the match.

A kill from Madeline Timmerman, assisted by Izora Gragg gave the Spartans the first point of set three. However, the Spartans' lead was quickly stopped by a 5-0 run from the Zips. Akron held the lead for the remainder of the third set. A service ace from Karleighana Jones secured the third and final set for the Zips (25-12).
