GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team will continue The Southern Conference (SoCon) schedule with one home and one away game this week. The Spartans will take a road trip to Johnson City, Tenn., to take on ETSU on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. The squad will return to Greensboro for a matchup against Chattanooga on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. in Fleming Gymnasium.

Quick Hitters for the Spartans
- UNCG heads into the weekend with a 1-12 overall record and 0-2 in the SoCon.
- Head Coach Felicia Turner gained her first win as a head coach on Friday, Sept. 8 with a 3-0 sweep over USC Upstate at the Black & Gold Classic, hosted by App State.
- The Spartans opened SoCon action on the road last weekend. The team took a loss in four sets to Samford on Friday and a straight set loss to Mercer on Saturday.
- Mya Wood led the Spartans as the libero in seven sets last week with 28 digs and 4.00 digs per set. She leads the team with 150 digs on the season.
- Mallory Meers led the Spartans as the setter last week with 28 assists and 4.00 assists per set over seven sets played. Meers added three service aces and seven digs for the squad on the week. She leads the team with 225 assists on the season.
- Daija Jackson led the Spartans on the offensive end last week with 15 kills over seven sets and just three attack errors. She averaged 2.14 kills per set on the week and added 4.0 total blocks and 17.5 points for UNCG. Jackson leads the team with 21.0 blocks this season.
- Aylin Baran leads the team with 124 kills on the season. She had a career high against UNC Asheville on Saturday, Sept. 16 with 27 kills in the match.
Scouting ETSU
ETSU heads into Thursday's match 0-13 overall and 0-2 in the SoCon. Each of the Bucs' non-conference matches were played in three or four sets. However, the squad opened its SoCon slate with back-to-back five set thrillers. ETSU took a five-set loss at Western Carolina on Thursday and to Furman on Saturday at home.
Brianna Cantrell leads the Bucs with 122 kills this season, averaging 2.65 kills per set. Malgorzata Andersohn stands out as the setter for ETSU with 300 assists this season. Abbey Thomas with 39.0 total blocks and Jasmal Cruz with 144 digs lead the Bucs on the defensive end.
The Bucs lead in the overall series against the Spartans at 30-12. ETSU took both meetings last season, the first in straight sets and the most recent matchup on Nov. 5 in Johnson City, Tenn., went to ETSU in four sets.
Scouting Chattanooga
The Mocs come into this week with an 11-5 overall record and 0-2 in the SoCon. Chattanooga opened up its SoCon slate at home last weekend with a four-set loss to The Citadel and a straight set loss to Wofford.
Morgan Romano is the leading hitter for the Mocs with 222 kills this season.Elaine Redman stands out as the setter with 563 assists. Paige Gallentine is the leading libero for Chattanooga with 287 digs.
Chattanooga leads in the overall series against UNCG at 30-23. The Mocs claimed both conference matchups last season. Most recently, with a straight set win in Chattanooga and first, with a four-set win in Greensboro.
The Mocs are top 25 nationally in six different categories including, hitting percentage, assists, attacks per set, digs and total attacks and kills.
The Mocs will face ETSU in Johnson City, Tenn., on Friday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. before coming to Greensboro.
