JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team took a 3-1 loss at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) on Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
An attack error from ETSU, two kills from
Aylin Baran, a kill from
Madeline Timmerman and a service ace from
Avery Sziksai, put the Spartans up 5-0 to start the match. UNCG held the lead for the majority of the first set. However, with the Spartans up by two (20-18), the Bucs captured a 7-1 run to take its first lead of the match and give ETSU the first set, 25-21.

Set two began the same as the first set with UNCG capturing a 5-0 run to start things off. With the Spartans up 11-8 in set two, ETSU's Chloe Dupuis recorded a kill to start a 4-0 run to give the Bucs its first lead of set two (12-11). The second set went back-and-forth until a kill from Baran started a 7-1 run for the Spartans to make the score 20-16. UNCG held the lead for the remainder of set two. A block assist from Baran and
Daija Jackson gave UNCG set two, 25-20.

The Bucs began the third set with a 6-1 run to maintain the lead throughout the entire game. A 4-0 run closed out the set to give the Bucs set three, 25-13.

ETSU continued its momentum into the fourth set. After UNCG got on the board first in the set, the Bucs dropped a 10-1 run to maintain control throughout the final set. A block solo by Lundyn Coffman gave ETSU the fourth and final set, 25-10.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Baran led the Spartans with 13 kills on the day.
- Sziksai led both teams with a new career high of five service aces.
- Jackson led both teams with 4.0 total blocks.
- Izora Gragg posted 16 assists to lead UNCG as the setter.
