GREENVILLE, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team fell to Furman, 1-0, in The Southern Conference (SoCon) opener on Saturday night at Stone Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCG held the shot advantage in the first half, 7-6. The Spartans looked to capitalize on a spirited first half with an early opportunity in the second frame.
Donovan Roux was pulled down from behind inside the 18-yard box by a Paladin and UNCG lined up for a penalty kick at 49:35. Fifth year
Ethan Conley stepped up to take the kick and the goalkeeper made the initial save and Conley put to ball back in being stopped by the goalkeeper's chest, resulting in one of the Spartans' nine corner kicks of the game.
In the 63
rd minute, the Paladins' Josh Hosie took a free kick and Slade Starnes met the strike just outside the six-yard box, heading it to the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
