GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team hits the road for its second-straight in-state battle, traveling south to face the Charlotte 49ers on Saturday, September 9. The two teams will kick off at 7:00 p.m. at Transamerica Field.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams since September 9, 2014. Charlotte was ranked No. 20 then and defeated the Spartans 2-0 in Greensboro. UNCG last defeated the then-ranked No. 15 49ers on September 3, 2013 with a score of 1-0 in Charlotte.

SPARTAN QUICK HITTERS
- UNCG was voted to finish first in the SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll, while Emmanuel Hagan, Ethan Conley, and Basile Marc earned Preseason All-Conference honors. All three were named to SoCon All-Conference teams.
- Hagan, Conley, and Marc were named captains this season.
- The Spartans feature 15 returners, 10 freshman, and three transfers.
- UNCG opened the season at home and played to a 1-1 draw to the California Golden Bears, in a game that was played over two days and five hours and 25 minutes due to inclement weather.
- Freshman Arnaud Tattevin scored his first-collegiate goal, while Nabil Homssa, and Donovan Roux each tallied their first assists as a Spartan against the Bears.
- The Spartans faced back-to-back ranked opponents including, then-ranked No. 14 Maryland and No. 13 Louisville, falling 2-0 to both teams.
- In a 1-1 draw against Campbell on Tuesday, Homssa scored his first-collegiate goal, while Colton Sessoms tallied his first assist of the season and third helper of his career.
- The game against Charlotte will be one of four-straight matches against North Carolina teams for UNCG.
SCOUTING CHARLOTTE
- Charlotte concluded the 2022 season with a 9-5-2 overall record and a 3-4-2 American mark.
- Charlotte was voted to finish sixth in the Preseason American Conference, while Jonathan Nyandjo and Ian Pilcher was selected to the preseason team.
- The 49ers have played just two games this season due to inclement weather during their home opener holding a 1-0-1 record.
- Charlotte shut out SoCon foe Wofford, 1-0, and tied Lipscomb, 2-2.
- Sebastian Cutler-DeJesus has started and played in net for the Niners in both games giving up just two goals.
- Brandon Morales, Matthew Kirk, and Natsuki Ogata have each scored one goal this season.
- Ogata was named American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for his game-winning goal over Wofford.
- Morales was one of 37 student-athletes named to the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List.
- The 49ers are made up of 14 returners and 14 newcomers.
