GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team dominated Coastal Carolina in a 3-0 win at the UNCG Soccer Stadium on Thursday evening. This will be the Spartan's fourth shutout this year, the third straight clean sheet for the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A confident UNCG team showed up looking to add another win to its season. The two teams settled into the match playing mostly in Coastal Carolina's defensive zone. At the sixth-minute mark,
Bailey Gourdine settled a loose ball outside the 18-yard box. Gourdine found an open
Caroline Woods who slotted the ball to the back left corner of the net for a 1-0 advantage at 6:31.
The Spartans continued to be persistent in shooting at the Chanticleers goal before
Dalani Stephens was successful in finding the back of the net with a strike right outside the 18-yard box at 14:44, for a 2-0 lead.
The Spartans continued to hold possession in Coastal's defensive zone to start the second half. Just under 10 minutes into the frame,
Rachel Poplin cut off a pass from a Chanticleer.
Ryen Ortiz collected the ball and set up
Taylor Mentzer from about 28 yards out, where she lasered one into the far-left corner of the net to put the Spartans up 3-0 in the 55
th minute.
BY THE NUMBERS:

- The Spartans had eight corners to the Chanticleers one.
- Woods had her third goal of the season, with Gourdine adding her second assist.
- Stephens tallied her first goal of the season and Mentzer had her first collegiate goal.
