Women’s Soccer Dominates in 3-0 Victory Over Coastal Carolina

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team dominated Coastal Carolina in a 3-0 win at the UNCG Soccer Stadium on Thursday evening. This will be the Spartan's fourth shutout this year, the third straight clean sheet for the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

A confident UNCG team showed up looking to add another win to its season. The two teams settled into the match playing mostly in Coastal Carolina's defensive zone. At the sixth-minute mark, Bailey Gourdine settled a loose ball outside the 18-yard box. Gourdine found an open Caroline Woods who slotted the ball to the back left corner of the net for a 1-0 advantage at 6:31.

The Spartans continued to be persistent in shooting at the Chanticleers goal before Dalani Stephens was successful in finding the back of the net with a strike right outside the 18-yard box at 14:44, for a 2-0 lead.

The Spartans continued to hold possession in Coastal's defensive zone to start the second half. Just under 10 minutes into the frame, Rachel Poplin cut off a pass from a Chanticleer. Ryen Ortiz collected the ball and set up Taylor Mentzer from about 28 yards out, where she lasered one into the far-left corner of the net to put the Spartans up 3-0 in the 55th minute.
