CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team took a 3-0 loss (19-25, 21-25, 23-25) to the Bulldogs of The Citadel in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action Saturday evening at McAlister Field House.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Citadel notched the first point of the match for the 1-0 lead, but a kill from
Cece Fitz followed by an attack error from the Bulldogs gave UNCG the 2-1 advantage. The Citadel quickly responded with a 3-1 run to take the lead and maintain it the rest of the set despite it staying close. The Bulldogs went on to clinch set one, 25-19.
UNCG found its stride in the second set after kills from
Emily Hanlon and
Allie Sweet, along with a service ace from
Megan Carron which gave the Spartans the 3-0 lead. The Blue & Gold stayed in control until late in the set. With UNCG on top, 20-13, The Citadel notched a 12-1 run to take set two, 25-21.
The Spartans got out to a 3-0 run in the third set. However, The Citadel responded with four-straight points to turn the third game into a back-and-forth battle with several ties and lead changes, coming down to the wire. With the set tied at 23, the Bulldogs posted a 2-0 run to close out the third and final set, 25-23, for the 3-0 win.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Chloe Nussbaum led the Spartans as the libero with 21 digs.
- Bloom Princell followed closely behind by posting a new career match high of 15 digs.
- Carron also saw double-digit digs by collecting 12 for the Spartans.
- Princell and Gragg tag teamed as setters for a collective 31 assists.
- Sweet paced the Spartans on the outside with 10 kills.
- Fitz and Hanlon led UNCG at the net with 6.0 total blocks apiece.
- Avery Sziksai paced both teams at the service line with two aces.

The Spartans return home for the final time this season to host Chattanooga on Friday, Nov. 8 at 6:00 p.m. and Western Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 5:00 p.m. in Fleming Gym.
For Friday's match the first 50 fans will receive free pizza. Saturday's match will feature a pre-game senior day ceremony. In addition, the first 60 fans will receive a free Krispy Kreme donut and there will be postgame autographs following the match.
