Men's Tennis Shuts Out Highlanders

RADFORD, Va. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team earned a 7-0 shutout over Radford at the Radford Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
 
"It was a grueling match, but we gave it our all for the team not giving up in the big moments," said Devon Moskowitz. "I loved the atmosphere, and we all played a big part in this victory!"
 
"Fighting spirit was very good, I think the attitude made it all because it keeps you in the match and if the head is clear, you find solutions at every moment," said Tymofiy Khrystyuk. "Overall, everyone played their part at 100% which made the win."

Luke Thomson and Hampus Johansson dropped the first double match of the day, 6-2 on court three. John Gabelic and David Flisberg rallied back to claim a 6-4 matchup over the Highlanders. Christopher Johns and Tymofiy Khrystyuk closed out doubles play by earning a tiebrekaer battle, 7-6, 7-2 for the Spartans to earn the doubles point.
 
UNCG continued its momentum into singles action, claiming all six matches. Thomson started off singles play by claiming a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Robert Hagen on court three. Gabelic came in behind by earning a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Evan Edwards on court four. Andrew Black was able to get past Manfredi Vergine over a three-set matchup, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 to give the Spartans the match clinching point (4-0) on court six. Flisberg put up a fight with Tom Saporta on court two to inevitably earn a 6-7, (3-7) 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) battle. Khrystyuk collected a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win over Guilherme Severin on court one. On court five, Devon Moskowitz claimed a 7-6, 4-2 win by retirement, giving UNCG the 7-0 win over the Highlanders.

The Spartans will return home to host Queens on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
