Men’s Tennis Outlasts Queens, 4-3

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team claimed a back-and-forth battle over Queens going all the way to the end on Saturday, 4-3 at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.

"It was a tough match, I'm glad I was able to push through with the given circumstances of today," said Andrew Black. "It was a lot of pressure being the last player on court with everyone putting their trust in me to clinch the match. Thanks to my teammates and my coaches I was able to push through and get the win for our team."

"It was an unbelievable feeling to get the win today," said John Gabelic. "We all fought all the way until the end. I'm very proud of the guys and I can't wait to continue this streak!"

After Queens gained the first doubles match of the day, doubles duos John Gabelic and David Flisberg and Devon Moskowitz and Andrew Black both earned 6-4 wins over their opponents, giving the Spartans the doubles point.

Gabelic finished first in singles action after a dominating 6-0, 6-1 victory over Enslin Connor on court four, putting the Spartans up 2-0. Tymofiy Khrystyuk earned a hard-fought battle over Laurenz Blickwede, 7-6 (4), 6-4, 3-6 on court one. Queens was able to rally back, claiming the next three singles points to tie the match at three points apiece. However, Black was able to clinch the match for the Spartans on court six in a three-set victory over Filippo Verdese, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 giving UNCG the 4-3 win.
