Five Homers Sends Baseball Past ETSU, 10-8

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team recorded five home runs to get past ETSU, 10-8 in the first game of the series Thursday night at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

Thursday's five homers was the first time that the Spartans have had five home runs in a single game since May 3, 2008. During that season, the team had five against College of Charleston winning 12-9 on May 3, 2008 and then five on April 12, 2008 in a 16-9 win over Wofford.

HOW IT HAPPENED
ETSU tallied the first set of runs in the contest after recording two in the first inning of action (2-0). The Spartans quickly responded with a staggering seven runs in their half of the first inning. First, Aidan Brewer sent out his sixth home run of the season, bringing Jeremy Wolf home for two RBI (2-2). Follow that, Trey Truitt singled to right center, scoring Jake Ogden for the 3-2 lead. Later on Matt Venuto singled to center field sending Caleb Cozart in for the run after ETSU's catcher dropped the ball, almost tagging Cozart at home plate for the 4-2 lead. Luke Holland posted three more runs for the Spartans after recording his first collegiate home run for three RBI (7-2).

The Bucs posted four more runs in the second inning to come back within one run (7-6).

Both teams stayed scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Jake Ogden and Cozart hit back-to-back homers for the 9-6 lead over the Bucs.

ETSU added another set of runs in the fifth inning, but the Spartans were able to hold the 9-8 advantage.

Cozart sent out his 13th home run of the season down the right field line, giving UNCG the two-run advantage in the eighth inning (10-8).

Closing pitcher, Danny Thompson Jr. took care of business on the mound with three of his four strikeouts coming in the ninth inning, for the Spartans to claim the 10-8 victory.
