GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team split its doubleheader on Friday, claiming a 4-3 victory over NC A&T and then falling 4-3 to Davidson at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
Match 1: UNCG 4 – NC A&T 3
The Spartans got on the board first against the Aggies after claiming the doubles point.
John Gabelic and
Hampus Johansson dominated in the first match of the day over Matthieu Dussaubat and Kaua Santos, 6-1 on court three.
Luke Thomson and
Tymofiy Khrystyuk clinched the doubles point for the Spartans on court two over Said Akbarov and Ian Pedersen, 6-2.
NC A&T found its stride in singles play by claiming the first three matches to take the 3-1 lead over the Spartans. However, UNCG rallied back to earn the final three matchups for the win. Thomson gave the Spartans point two on court six with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ethan Baly. Gabelic followed in behind to defeat Pedersen on court four, 7-6 (4), 7-5.
Devon Moskowitz clinched the match for the Spartans with a three-set battle on court five over Santos, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Match 2: UNCG 3 – Davidson 4
Just like the first match, the Spartans tallied the first point of the day after notching all three doubles matches.
Harrison Gwynn and
Christopher Johns claimed the first doubles contest with a 6-3 win over Juan Perez and Nico Pinzon on court three. Thomson and Khrystyuk came in behind to post a 6-2 win over Udday Singh and Alejandro Solares, 6-4 to earn the doubles point.
Gabelic continued the momentum for the Spartans into singles play with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Solares on court three for the 2-0 lead. However, the Wildcats responded by earning the next four singles contests to clinch the match. Moskowtiz recorded one more point for the Spartans to close out the match on court four, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (3). However, the Wildcats were able to walk away with the 4-3 victory.
