HUMACAO, PUERTO RICO. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team is tied for seventh after the first round of the Puerto Rico Classic, hosted by Ball State.
Junior
Ava Romfo is leading the way in first place with a five-under-par (67) performance, for a career-best round.
TEAM
- The Spartans are tied for seventh overall out of 12 teams with a nine-over-par (297) score.
- California Baptist is first overall with a seven-under-par (281) scorecard.
- The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Western Carolina is third with a four-over-par (292), while Wofford is tied with UNCG in seventh.
- The Spartans are in a two-way tie with South Dakota with two eagles.
INDIVIDUAL
- Romfo is first overall with her five-under-par (67) round one score.
- She made six birdies, leading the Spartans on the day, as well as one eagle on the par-five 485-yard hole three.
- Freshman Elle Burnette is tied for 28th after her three-over-par (75) scorecard.
- Burnette also made an eagle on the third hole.
- Romfo and Burnette are tied for first in par fives averaging 3.75.
- Julia Baeumken is tied for 32nd among the field of 71 competitors after her first-round score of four-over-par (76).
- Anna Bowman is tied for 51st and Grace Holcomb is 67th overall following their first-round play.
