HAMPTON, Va. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team fell in a competitive 4-3 match at Hampton on Tuesday at the James River Country Club.
The Pirates were able to strike first in the match after claiming the first two doubles matches for the 1-0 lead. However,
Juliana Craft and
Ella Olexa were able to earn the two-set doubles battle over L. Jorrin Fernandez and Mas Mitic on court two, 7-6 (11-9).
Hampton continued its momentum into the first singles match for Diana Starodubtseva to defeat Craft, 6-3, 6-4 on court two, giving the Pirates the 2-0 lead.
Olivia Gallagher responded on court three to earn the 6-3, 6-2 win over Meiri Okuwaki to give UNCG its first point of the day.
Sydney Bly put up a hard-fought battle with Sofia Sokolava on court four, that ultimately went the way for Sokolava giving Hampton the 3-1 advantage, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Arina Babkova gave the Spartans their second point after gaining a 6-4, 7-5 win over Mio Kozaki on court one. The Pirates were able clinch the match on court six after Masa Mitic defeated
Ella Olexa, 7-5, 6-3.
Raegan Mitchell earned the final point for the Spartans, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. However, Hampton was able to come away with the 4-3 win.
