WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team fell in a 9-2 contest at No. 21 Wake Forest Tuesday night at the David F. Couch Ballpark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Wake Forest got on the board first with a couple of two-run homers in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead over the Spartans.
The Demon Deacons added two more runs in the fourth inning for the 6-0 advantage. Wake Forest posted its fifth homer of the day in the sixth inning for two RBI (8-0).
The Spartans tallied their first set of runs in the eighth inning. First,
Mitchell Smith doubled to center field, scoring
Jake Ogden (8-1). Later on,
Luke Holland singled to left field to bring
Trey Truitt across home plate (8-2).
Wake Forest tacked on another run in the bottom half of the eighth inning for the 9-2 lead.
Cole Roland closed it out on the mound for the Demon Deacons to walk away with the 9-2 victory.
NOTES:
- Grant Aycock and Hunter Shuey led the Spartans on the mound with two strikeouts apiece.
- Smith paced the squad on the field with 11 total putouts.
- Smith led the team with two hits and one double.
- Smith and Holland led the way with one RBI apiece.
- As a team, the Spartans collected four walks and three HBP's.
