AUSTIN, TEXAS. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team stands in eighth place after round one of the NCAA Regionals on Monday at The University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas.
Kelvin Hernandez leads the Spartans in a tie for first place after recording a four-under-par (67).
"It was an amazing experience," said Hernandez. "I was really nervous the first couple of holes but managed to have a solid start and that just helped me to keep playing good. I was hitting the ball really good so that helped me shoot a solid round today. The course is pretty tough so we're just trying to stay in it and give ourselves a chance to go to Nationals."
TEAM
- UNCG carded a four-over-par (288) team score in round one.
- The Spartans are leading all 13 teams with 67 pars.
- Texas is pacing all teams with an 11-under-par (273).
- The Spartans are leading Arkansas, Wake Forest, Kansas City, Grand Canyon and San Joe State, in that order.
INDIVIDUAL
- Coming behind Hernandez, Randall Hudson sits in a tie for 32nd place with a one-over-par (72).
- Symon Balbin is third for the Spartans and tied for 49th overall after posting a three-over-par (74) in round one.
- Noah Connor is in a tie for 54th place with a four-over-par (75).
- Tommy Lamb rounds out the scorecard for the Spartans after recording a six-over-par (77) to be in a tie for 66th place.
- Hernandez' 67 round score matched his career low, which he has achieved two other times this season.
- Hernandez is one of only six players on the field to record an eagle in the first round.
- Hudson is leading all individuals with 17 pars.

The Spartans will continue at the NCAA Regionals for round two tomorrow Tuesday, May 14 at The University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas. UNCG will be paired with Arkansas State and Arkansas, teeing off at 8:25 a.m. CST.
